After a very long wait, “Stranger Things 4” finally arrived on Netflix last year, and not only was it a massive hit for the streamer, it was in fact the #1 streaming show of the entire year!
That’s right, “Stranger Things” was the most-streamed TV show — and overall program — in the United States last year, this according to an official Nielsen chart released today.
Variety details, “The sci-fi hit series ran up that hill to register a whopping 52 billion minutes streamed in 2022, the highest total since COVID-driven lockdowns drove audiences to watch 57.1 billion minutes of NBC’s “The Office” in 2020.”
The site also notes, “In total, Americans streamed more than 19.4 million years of content last year, up 27% from about 15 million years in 2021, according to Nielsen.”
Other top streaming programs for 2022 included “NCIS” in second place with 38.1 billion minutes viewed, along with “Cocomelon,” “Ozark,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Criminal Minds.”
Netflix’s Jenna Ortega-led series “Wednesday” came in 12th place on the overall Nielsen chart, with “Supernatural” coming in one spot ahead of the Addams Family-based series.

When can you expect “Stranger Things 5” to premiere? Likely not until at least 2024. And that season will be the FINAL season of the hit series, though spinoff programs are likely.
