MIKE: Beware of the Monkey [10k]
Beware of the Monkey takes its name from the Chinese calendar, and a horoscope that MIKE interpreted as a warning about the future. The follow-up to last year’s wonderful Disco! was led by the singles “Nuthin I Can Do Is Wrng,” “What Do I Do?,” and “Stop Worry!,” featuring the dancehall legend Sister Nancy. Additional guests on the album include longtime MIKE collaborators Jadasea and King Carter.

Hildur Guðnadóttir: Women Talking (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) [Mercury Classics Soundtrack & Score]
Women Talking tells the story of eight Mennonite women who struggle with their faith after learning that men in their community abused women for years without consequence. The film’s cast includes Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, and Jessie Buckley; it was scored by Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Icelandic composer and cellist known for her work on the films Tár and Joker, as well as the HBO series Chernobyl. “While the story is both doomsday and a call to prayer, the music needed to be a vehicle for hope,” Hildur remarked, “a way forward from a situation that is unbearably dark.”

Sauce Walka: Sauce Ghetto Gospel 3 [The Sauce Familia/Empire]
Houston’s Sauce Walka broke through in 2014 with “2 Legited 2 Quited,” a track that was apparently supposed to get a guest verse from Drake that never materialized. He later released a diss track aimed at the Toronto superstar called “Wack 2 Wack,” and has since collaborated with Migos, Chief Keef, A$AP Rocky, and more. Sauce Walka’s new full-length, Ghetto Gospel 3, follows August’s Sauce Beach Florida and is led by the single “Here I Am.”
