One of the most promising management sims out there is that of Airborne Kingdom, setting you high in the sky, building your own city and overseeing its operation. We gave it a 4.5/5 score at the end of 2021, and now developers The Wandering Band are treating us to more opportunities to build the city (nay, kingdom) of our dreams… in the cold!
Previously available on PC, Airborne Kingdom: The Lost Tundra is a free expansion to the base game that proves to be one of the most challenging campaigns that truly tests even the most veteran of city builders. Releasing today on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, following on from a previous PC drop, The Lost Tundra is open to all players, regardless of if they have completed the main game.
You see, the tundra is a harsh locale, barren of key resources such as food, water and coal. Parts of your buildings exposed to the cold will also be made structurally weaker, placing the emphasis upon keeping a little bit of cash in the bank for making restorations and replacements, as well as purchasing furnaces to negate these effects somewhat.
Ultimately, as is the case with all city builders, it’s all about ensuring your citizens are happy and healthy, the money is flowing in and, hopefully, your society becomes self-sustaining. The Lost Tundra is just an added piece of content for players to get involved in, in addition to the already present 12 cities across three separate areas in the main game. Each city will require different actions of you as lord overseer in order to align them with your kingdom, eventually producing a grand alliance to rival historic empires of times past.
Mastering the tundra will also gift you with new cosmetics and customisations for your expansive kingdom, not least when you uncover hidden areas across the frozen landscape.
There’s no better time to get into Airborne Kingdom on Xbox, given that The Lost Tundra is a free expansion to the game. To pick up a copy on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, you can do so on the Xbox Store for £20.99. Airborne Kingdom is alternatively available on PlayStation, Switch and PC.
