Ubisoft announced no less than 4 new Assassin’s Creed projects at Saturday’s Ubisoft Forward event. The video game publisher only hinted at Assassin’s Creed Infinity, its long-promised, even longer-rumored live service expected to tie together all future games in the series. But Ubisoft used its presentation to announce 3 new single-player titles and a mobile game in the series. As is tradition for Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed in particular, a lot of the news was leaked early, this time by Bloomberg. But the video showcase added the much-needed visual element to get a better idea of what to expect from the games, even though all the trailers were cinematic, not showing any gameplay. Here’s everything we learned about the future of Assassin’s Creed, plus other news to come out of today’s Ubisoft Forward.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Ubisoft shared the first look at Assassin’s Creed Mirage, set to release sometime in 2023. It’s set in 9th century Baghdad, and tells “the powerful coming-of-age story of Basim, from street thief to Master Assassin.” The trailer was entirely cinematic, but based on the vibe and the middle eastern setting, it appears to harken back to the early Creed titles, which were much more focused on stealth than the open-world games of recent years.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red
Set in feudal Japan, Codename Red will be an open world game in the style of the last three games in the series.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade
Set in Ancient China, Codename Jade is described as a “AAA RPG” mobile title. The game will be exclusive to subscribers to Netflix, which is also developing a live-action TV series based on the franchise.
Assassin’s Creed Project Hexe
Developed by the studio who originally created the series, this title will take place during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire that’s described as “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.” Above is the trailer, which Ubisoft says contains secrets for fans to decipher.
Ubisoft also announced the final DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a documentary about the making of the game series
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
The gameplay video for the sequel to 2017’s Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle shared during today’s Ubisoft Forward is the most thorough look at the turn-based combat yet, showing how players can use the sparks they collect can be used to customize their teams made up of Rabbids and residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. Ubisoft also teased that Rayman will appear in a DLC pack for the game after launch.
Skull and Bones
Ubisoft Singapore‘s long-delayed pirate game is finally releasing this year on November 8. Ubisoft shared two trailers for Skull and Bones, one about the world of the game and the other about the gameplay. Both are rather short, only about a minute apiece. Given reports that Ubisoft was required to release the game due to a subsidy agreement with the government of Singapore, the publisher may just be putting out this game to die. Two brief trailers doesn’t do much to alleviate that worry.
This was a very busy showcase, and likely an exciting one if you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan. We’ll surely learn a lot more about games announced today in the months and even years to come.
