Jamaican reggae artist Protoje has announced his next album. It’s called Third Time’s the Charm, and it arrives September 23 via Protoje’s own label In.Digg.Nation Collective/RCA. Today, he has shared the LP’s latest single “Late at Night,” which features Lila Iké, along with a SAMO-directed music video. Check it out below, and scroll down for the album art and tracklist.

“Late at Night” is Protoje’s fourth single from Third Time’s the Charm, following “Family” [Ft. Jesse Royal], “Incient Stepping,” and “Hills.” “I’ve been searching for an instrumental that epitomizes hard core reggae,” Protoje said of the new song in press materials. “It feels like how ’Welcome to’ by Damian Marley felt when I first heard it, and Lila’s voice adds this eerie and haunting element to an already dark and grimy riddim.” The track samples “Late at Nights” by Jamaican singer Pam Hall and producer Gussie Clark. Cadenza co–produced the new song with Protoje.

Third Time’s the Charm follows Protoje’s 2018 LP A Matter of Time and 2020’s In Search of Lost Time. “Third Time’s the Charm concludes this trilogy of albums that directly focus on my study of time and how important it is to make sure what you’re doing is fulfilling you in every way,” Protoje said. “Sonically it’s a bit more reggae than my last, even though reggae is always the root, I had some fun implementing all the sounds I’ve grown to love.”

Protoje recorded the new LP primarily at the Habitat in Kingston, Jamaica. The 10-track record includes contributions from Jorja Smith, Samory I, and Jesse Royal, as well as producers like Iotosh, Ziah .Push, and Zion I Kings. Protoje is currently on tour in support of his new album.
