So, remember New Jersey’s North Bergen High School doing their own adaptation of Ridley Scott’s Alien a few years back? Well, how about a high school doing a BioShock musical?
Spotted by Eurogamer, the Powerhouse choir from John Burroughs High School in California performed their musical interpretation of 2K Games’ acclaimed shooter as part of the Hart Encore 2022 show choir competition. Needless to say, the Powerhouse choir hit it big, winning awards like Best Musicianship, Showmanship, and Soloist.
BioShock characters Andrew Ryan, Brigid Tenenbaum, and Sander Cohen were all featured in the musical, which didn’t exactly follow the entirety of the game’s story. It did, however, feature a performance of CCR’s “Proud Mary” with the line “rolling underwater” swapped in. Plus, it did replicate the 1950’s stylings from the game, so points for that.
It’s all prep for the upcoming BioShock movie on Netflix, which is being produced by Vertigo Entertainment and Take Two. And of course, if you need your fix of the game on film, you can always rewatch Dan Duthie‘s fan film “The Interrogation of Timmy H.“.
Meanwhile, 2K Games is still at work on their return to the series, with the game rumoured to be coming out later this year.
