Gearbox has announced the return of the Tales from the Borderlands series this summer. At PAX East 2022, Gearbox Software founder Randy Pitchford teased the series’ return during the Gearbox Main Theatre Show, which the news later made its way to the official Borderlands Twitter.

The new Tales from the Borderlands entry will be developed in-house, and will feature “all new characters and all-new stories from the Borderlands,” according to Pitchford. “We’ve been working on this experience secretly for many years. And I can’t wait until it’s time to announce this all-new game this summer and show all of you what we’ve been doing. So please be on the lookout this summer for the announcement of an all-new Tales from the Borderlands.”

The first Tales from the Borderlands game, an episodic interactive sci-fi adventure title, was released in 2014 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. Developed in partnership with Telltale Games, Tales from the Borderlands took place after the events of Borderlands 2, with the story centered around Hyperion employee Rhys and Pandoran con-artist Fiona as they teamed up to find and open a Vault.

Meanwhile, we’re waiting on Eli Roth‘s upcoming film adaptation of Borderlands, which when we last checked, had wrapped production last June. The film stars Florian MunteanuAriana Greenblatt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate BlanchettKevin Hart, Gina Gershon, and Jack Black.

The film will follow Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, who reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power.
