Just yesterday the trailer for Thor Love & Thunder dropped and with the reveal of the trailer Hasbro revealed the wave of Marvel Legends figures to coincide with the film’s release. I personally really loved the trailer for the film as I am a big fan of Thor Ragnarok and Taika Watiti’s other films so I knew I would really enjoy it.
The figures did leak before the trailer was revealed and has been found on some store shelves in America already. In this wave, you do get Ravager Thor, Armored Thor, Mighty Thor (Jane Foster), King Valkyrie, Gorr, Groot, and Star-Lord. All of these characters are based on their appearance in the film and are all new sculpts aside from Groot who comes with some new accessories.
Some of the early looks at the Armored Thor outfit look a bit garish, but I think after seeing this figure I think it looks really impressive and I do love how it is inspired by one of his looks from the comics. The detailing on it is fantastic for a Marvel Legends figure. I really dig the Ravager Thor figure, the likeness to Chris Hemsworth is excellent and I love the homage to the character’s original classic costume with the wraps around his boots.
The Mighty Thor figure looks great. The design is similar to the comic version but with an MCU spin to it. The detailing on the armor looks very clean and the helmeted head looks very accurate to how she looks in the film. I can understand people’s complaints about the unmasked head not looking like Natalie Portman, but I think this is a case where the figure will look much better in hand, these have happened before with some MCU Marvel Legends figures.
The King Valkyrie figure looks to be a big step up from the other Valkyrie figures that we have gotten with a better likeness to Tessa Thompson than the previous figures. Also, her sword looks to be a new sculpt too. One thing I haven’t mentioned is the sculpt of the capes. They all look unique from each other and in some shots, they fooled me into thinking they were soft good capes.
The main villain from the film is Gorr who we hadn’t seen in the teaser trailer at all which is a nice surprise and we know that in the film he will be played by Christian Bale and I have to say you can clearly tell it’s him beneath the makeup on the figure. It’s strikingly good. He comes with his Necrosword which looks very unique. I know some fans have been put off a bit by his appearance but I think he looks great.
Next up in the wave we get two members of the Guardians of The Galaxy Star-Lord and Groot. Star-Lord is a brand new figure as I can’t really see any re-use at all. I really like the head sculpt and the armor pieces on his jacket. The torso looks new too as well as the boots. I love the color scheme of his coat as well. I never picked up Teenage Groot so this is a must-have for me especially as he comes with some new pieces such as the interchangeable hands which are extended branches. Also, Teen Groot is the only Groot missing from my collection.
The Build-A-Figure for this wave is Korg who is similar to the one that came in a two-pack with the Grandmaster. This one is a bit different from that release as he has clothing with more armor on his upper body and pants with fur coverings over his ankles. The subtle paint wash on the fur parts looks great and I love the belt buckle as well. We do see Korg in the trailer who seems to be going on a journey with Thor in the film which is probably why he’s dressed like this.
This figure is different enough to warrant getting it for me. Hasbro also revealed a Marvel Legends prop replica of Mjolnir which is shown to be welded by Mighty Thor in the trailer and it does look fantastic I would love to have this in my collection and I love the light-up feature too. The figures cost $24.99 each and will be up for pre-order on the 26th of April.
