While Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate doesn’t have any confirmed platforms as yet, we do know who’ll be doing the heavy lifting on the Unreal Engine 5-based JRPG.

Japanese studio HexaDrive is involved (thanks, Push Square), and is a company with which Square Enix fans should be familiar – it also assisted on Final Fantasy XV. Nintendo fans might best know it thanks to the company’s involvement with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for the Wii U.

It has also been confirmed that fellow Japanese company Orca will be lending a hand on Dragon Quest XII. Based in Shinjuku, Orca previously worked on Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition. It also helped Bandai Namco with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Both HexaDrive and Orca are currently advertising for a wide range of positions, which suggests that the next Dragon Quest instalment is still some way away. It’s also unlikely that either company will have much say in the direction of the game; we’d imagine they’re involved on a purely technical basis.

Do you think Dragon Quest XII will come to Switch? Given that the console has been on the market for over four years, it might be unlikely; perhaps it will release on the Switch’s successor?
