With Koei Tecmo recently trademarking Fatal Frame‘s Japanese series’ logo, one would think (and hope) that things would be picking up for a potential revival of the series. According to series producer Keisuke Kikuchi, that now largely rests on the performance of the upcoming re-release of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

In a new interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu (and thanks to Japanese website Ryokutya for snagging the quote), Kikuchi was asked about the possibility of a new Fatal Frame entry after Maiden of Black Water‘s release. Kikuchi responded saying, “I hope so. This time [Maiden of Black Water] is offered as a 20th anniversary project. I would like to take this opportunity to play with many players and connect it to the next work.”

Kikuchi also mentioned that Koei Tecmo added more platforms for this port because he wants more players to try out the game. Upon its initial release for the Wii U back in 2014, Maiden of Black Water had split critics, from its graphic and gameplay to its cast. We’ll have to wait and see what the re-evaluation seven years later looks like.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will arrive on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on October 28.
