Halo Infinite may feature more than one campaign, according to some information found by fans on Halo Waypoint. Since Halo Infinite is believed to be more of a platform for the series that will continue to evolve over time as opposed to a traditional entry, this would make sense and allow 343 to keep adding new story content to the game.
Previously, fans discovered possible campaign passes for Halo Infinite which indicated some sort of battle pass for the campaign. This makes some sense, but if it’s meant to be purchasable with real money, it would likely be difficult to convince people to keep playing the same campaign long after they’ve beaten it. With that said, it seems that the story of Halo Infinite will continue past what launches with the game, and this latest discovery seems to back that idea up even further.
Twitter user ChiefAgainstKpo (via Xbox News) made the discovery via a beta version for the iteration of Halo Waypoint. It’s possible it’s simply a typo, but there’s no evidence in either direction. Halo Infinite’s ongoing tech test is revealing a lot of new information about the game, but this is certainly one of the most noteworthy discoveries. Fans in the replies of Xbox News’ tweet speculate that the story could continue via supporting characters such as The Arbiter, Agent Locke, or entirely new characters. 343 Industries has also heavily teased that the player-created Spartans seen in multiplayer also have some sort of significance, but it remains to be seen what that means.
Since Halo Infinite‘s campaign is a full-priced game while the multiplayer is free-to-play, it’ll be interesting to see just how substantial these potential campaigns are. Fans could see anything from small, individual missions added seasonally to substantial content additions in line with conventional DLC expansions. It’s hard to say, but fans are responding fairly well to the Halo Infinite tech test, which bodes well for the rest of the game.
Whether or not the Master Chief will have a future beyond the main story of Halo Infinite remains to be seen, but there’s a rich cast of characters that can certainly help fill the void in these potential story expansions. With such a massive and popular science fiction setting to explore, Halo is ripe for story expansion, and there will likely be no shortage of opportunities for story content following the release of Halo Infinite later this year.
Halo Infinite will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC in 2021.
