Loki’s Tom Hiddleston recaps his character’s entire story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in just 30 seconds. Hiddleston will play the God of Mischief for the seventh time in Disney+’s Loki, a series following its titular trickster. However, his character arc will not pick up from Loki’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. Instead, an earlier version of Loki (circa 2012) will take center stage after escaping custody and stealing the Tesseract during the Avengers’ time heist in Avengers: Endgame.

Fresh off the Battle of New York, this “variant” version of Loki will cause serious damage to the timeline and be arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization tasked with monitoring the proper flow of time. Loki is set to be a reality-hopping, science fiction, heist extravaganza, as it puts the petulant god to work fixing the damage he did to the spacetime continuum. The fan-favorite swindler will likely find a way to live up to his namesake despite TVA’s oversight. Joining Hiddleston is Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi, Mosaku, Richard E. Grant, and Owen Wilson as Mobius, the TVA analyst who needs Loki’s assistance. That said, for those who aren’t familiar with the history of Thor’s enigmatic brother, Hiddleston is here to help.

In honor of National Streaming Day, Marvel Entertainment recently dropped a brief Loki featurette in which Hiddleston recounts the God of Mischief’s arc throughout the MCU. Tapping into his beloved character’s energy and perspective, Hiddleston explains the events of ThorThe AvengersThor: The Dark WorldThor: RagnarokAvengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame before setting up his new series. Check it out below:

Hiddleston’s manipulation of time in the above featurette resembles what will likely happen often in Loki. As the MCU dives deeper into Phase 4, it hypes its vast multiverse. Many thought that Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series, WandaVision, would crack open the multiverse but merely continued to tease it. Following The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLoki could have the greatest impact on the larger MCU so far. Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Kevin Feige has mentioned that the Fantastic Four and X-Men will be coming to the MCU. Kang the Conqueror, who is directly associated with the Fantastic Four in the comics, has also been announced to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Because of things like this, theorizing will no doubt accompany weekly installments of Loki.

Loki’s head writer, Michael Waldron, is not only known for his work on Rick and Morty but also wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness—another MCU entry poised to shake things up. Out of all the actors in the MCU, Hiddleston is arguably the most knowledgeable; heavily researching Loki in the comics/mythology before his debut and continuously proving himself worthy of acclaim. It seems only right that, regardless of where his series takes us, Hiddleston’s here to tell us where he’s been.
