The upgraded PS5-exclusive FF7 Remake Intergrade is coming in June, so Square Enix released a final trailer for the game Friday, showing off its improved graphics and new content in the FF7R INTERmission DLC. The trailer was also uploaded to the official PlayStation YouTube channel, and this version ended with the reveal that FF7 Remake Intergrade will remain a PS5 exclusive for at least six months after June 10, confirming that no other version of the revamped port will be released until 2022.
It’s unclear if this exclusivity extends to the original FF7 Remake, but it would make sense if it does. Many fans were expecting PC and Xbox ports of FF7 Remake to be announced when the orignal exclusivity deal presumably ended in April. It’s possible that Square Enix and Sony’s new PS5 deal for FF7 Remake Intergrade and the Yuffie NTERmission DLC is part of a larger agreement that also encompasses continued PlayStation console exclusivity for the base game.
This extended exclusivity period is interesting, as the relationship between Square Enix and Microsoft has actually been growing over the past few years, with several Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy games coming to Xbox Game Pass. Square Enix has also been releasing many of its games on PC, with a heavy emphasis on older titles that have been remastered. The PS5 is believed to not have many exclusives lined up for its first year, so it’s possible that Sony was willing to work with Square Enix to keep FF7 Remake and Intergrade on its platforms for a little longer. This also raises the question regarding the unnamed sequel to FF7 Remake. Sony managed to land a timed exclusivity deal for FF7 Remake and Final Fantasy XVI, so there’s a strong chance that FF7 Remake‘s sequel could also be PlayStation-exclusive.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available for PS5 on June 10, 2021.
