what the dub

If you’ve ever enjoyed a Jackbox Party Pack, or watched a movie and thought “I could write a better script than this”, then What the Dub?! might be your jam.

It couldn’t be simpler. Find a group of three to twelve people, fire up your smartphones, and enter a group code that puts you all in the same game. Then watch video clips where you’re given a few setup lines, before an actor’s line is bleeped out. Then it’s up to you: type in the perfect follow-up line, and press enter.

Then it’s onto the popularity contest. The sequence plays over and over again, with each person’s line dubbed over the top, and everyone gets a vote for which one was their favourite. So pick the funniest, most suitable, the most outrageous, etcetera. The scores get tallied after a set number of rounds and the winner is called.

What the Dub?! is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Switch and PC.

The 300 or so clips are all chopped up from old B-movies, western serials, black and white movies and other miscellaneous public domain footage. That might sound a little cheap, but it works well, as the lame acting, writing, costumes and sets offer ample room for fun dubs. You certainly won’t be lacking for inspiration.

Check out our review to get the lowdown – it’ll be live very, very soon. We found it to be a fun diversion, if a bit of a one-trick pony. If you’re interested in adding another game to your Jackbox party rotation, then What the Dub?! could be a strong fit.

What the Dub?! is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and starts at £6.69 from the Xbox Store. It’s also out on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC.

Game Description:

What The Dub is a local multiplayer party game where each player overdubs missing dialogue from hilariously awful B-movies, woefully outdated PSAs, and bizarre industrial films, with their own witty (or just plain stupid) dubs. Players watch the dubs and vote on the best one. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins! It’s just that easy! What The Dub takes “bad movie night” and expands it into an interactive, fast-paced, multiplayer game that friends and family, both local and afar, can enjoy!
