The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has cast John Waters for season 4. The Amazon Prime original series has become a huge success for the streaming platform. The series comes from Gilmore Girls and Bunheads creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and first aired in 2017. Since then, the series has gone on to win 20 Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globes.

Variety confirmed that Waters will appear as a guest star on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Details about the character he will be playing have not been revealed. However, it is likely that he will be filming for the role soon if he hasn’t already since production for season 4 is currently underway in New York City. Filming started in January 2021 after production was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and has reportedly been going strong since.

While Waters will be appearing on-camera for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and has made his fair share of cameos, Waters is more famously known as a writer and director. His best-known works include Hairspray, Cry-Baby, and Pink Flamingos. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been known to pleasantly surprise fans by casting some of their favorite stars for small parts each season. Some of these stars include Sterling K. Brown, Jane Lynch, Zachary Levi, Emily Bergl, and Jason Alexander. Now Waters will join those ranks.

The series synopsis reads:

In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel’s life is on track– husband, kids and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But at the start of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, her life takes a surprise turn, and she has to quickly decide what else she’s good at– and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her.
