Black Panther is going to war in Marvel’s King in BlackThe legions of Knull the Symbiote God have come to invade Earth, overwhelming and bonding with everything and everyone they come into contact with. While the Avengers, X-Men, and several other heroes stood to defend New York from the initial onslaught, none of them were prepared for the power of Knull himself. But New York wasn’t the only place that was attacked. In the upcoming King in Black: Black Panther #1, Wakanda is under siege, and a new preview for the issue reveals that Knull’s armies could very well overtake the kingdom entirely.

The nation of Wakanda was long isolated as a secret, closed society. Extremely advanced due to their valuable resource of vibranium (the same rare metal that allows Captain America’s shield to shrug off kinetic force), the kingdom has long been protected by their king, who also bears the mantle of the Black Panther. However, King T’Challa’s rule has also seen him aid and protect the rest of the world as an Avenger, tying his nation to the rest of the globe more than any other king in the nation’s past. It’s a move that has brought change to Wakanda and the wider world, with new allies and enemies revealing themselves over time, but as Knull hits Earth, it seems that Wakanda will stand alone.

King in Black: Black Panther #1 is coming from Geoffrey Thorne and German Peralta, revealing the forces of Wakanda facing an attack the likes of which it has never seen. It’s a rare thing to witness Wakanda in real danger from outside its borders. Up until recently, Wakanda was famous for never having been conquered, though Namor’s Avengers vs X-Men attack and Thanos’ ”Times Runs Out” assault did incredible damage. Now, it’s Knull’s turn, and with T’Challa’s beloved Storm falling in New York and his other allies either already down or busy elsewhere, it seems that the King in Black will test Wakanda like never before. Enjoy the preview pages and summary from Marvel Comics below:

  • KING IN BLACK: BLACK PANTHER #1
  • Writer Geoffrey Thorne
  • Art German Peralta
  • Cover Art Leinil Francis Yu
  • SYMBIOTES INVADE THE UNCONQUERABLE COUNTRY OF WAKANDA!
  • T’Challa’s most treasured allies are lost in a storm of Knull’s making in this wild one-shot! Critically acclaimed writer, actor and producer Geoffrey Thorne explores a Wakanda gone dark – invaded by Knull’s massive symbiote army. Wakanda needs its king. It needs the Black Panther. But once again, the hero must choose between his role as an Avenger, his role as a king… and the yearnings of his heart.

It appears as though the issue will see T’Challa right in the heart of the battle, all while mourning the loss of Storm, who was claimed by Knull in the first issue of King in Black. Storm is extremely important to T’Challa, as she was once his Queen. Soaring above the chaos in a Wakandan flight rig, the Black Panther is seen in the preview pages coming in for a landing, determined to deliver some serious damage to the symbiotes invading his kingdom and home. But even as Black Panther returns to protect his nation, it seems there’s a chance he’ll abandon his subjects to stay true to his own heart. Here’s hoping Black Panther will be able to choose the right course of action when the upcoming issue releases February 10 from Marvel Comics.
