Fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons are finally getting more interactive ways of engaging with their villagers and other players on their islands, as teased in the recent winter update trailer. In addition to Animal Crossing’s Thanksgiving and Christmas event, users now have access to a “Hip Reactions Collection” of new responses and emotes to further customize and represent one’s character.

The latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will be enabled November 19th, and is one of the game’s biggest updates so far. It includes Franklin the turkey and Turkey Day; Jingle the reindeer and Toy Day; new hairstyles; more home storage; random island dream visits; island and resident data transfers; an Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp collaboration feature; seasonal New Year’s items; and new Reactions. It also teased another update coming in late January 2021.

The trailer showed nine new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reactions for the player to use, many of which users have seen their villagers perform already, such as doing yoga or working out. The Hip Reactions Collection also includes one of most requested features in New Horizons: sitting on the ground. As villagers often plop down around one’s island to enjoy a nice day or take a nap, fans have long lamented about not being able to join their fuzzy companions in this manner. Without a chair, all a player could previously do was stand awkwardly and watch their grounded buddies.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Introduces More Reactions

Animal Crossing Sit Down With Villagers

New Horizons players no longer have to deal with the frustration of not being able to sit side-by-side a villager directly upon the surface of Mother Earth. The other reactions being implemented involve being to Work Out and do Yoga like many villagers are seen doing in the plaza in front of Resident Services. Additionally, they can Take a Picture with their phones like New Horizons’ fishing enthusiast C.J. the beaver does when a player impresses him by catching fish in Animal Crossing. The other Reactions shown in the trailer are Wave Goodbye, which involves a longer wave than the Greeting Reaction and the Excited Reaction – where the player does a little jig of exhilaration.

Here You Go is a Reaction appropriate for the upcoming Thanksgiving-inspired Turkey Day, as is Sniff Sniff – which depicts the player smelling food. Since Turkey Day will be held on November 26th, these Reactions are coming at the perfect time, especially if the user invites others to their island to partake in the festivities. The final new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reaction displayed in the trailer is Ta-Da, which is also appropriate for showing off anything on one’s island. All of these nine Reactions can be redeemed by exchanging Nook Miles at the Nook Stop terminal inside of New Horizons’ Resident Services building.

There’s certainly a lot of new content for players to explore once this update hits, and it’s comforting to know that Nintendo is listening to its fans as many new features – like sitting on the ground, new Animal Crossing hairstyles, and more storage – have been requested for many months now. Since another new update is expected to drop in late January of 2021, it’ll be exciting to see what else will be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the near future.
