Run the Jewels were the latest guests on the Song Exploder podcast. The duo discussed their RTJ4 track “JU$T,” which features verses from Pharrell Williams and Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha. Mike and El-P talked about their approach to writing lyrics centered around money and capitalism, as well as working with collaborators like Pharrell, de la Rocha, and Brooklyn soul singer Nicholas Ryan Gant. Last week, Run the Jewels performed RTJ4 in full on Adult Swim. The virtual concert was held to encourage voter turnout. Run the Jewels surprise-released RTJ4 back in June. The following month, Killer Mike and El-P joined blink-182’s Travis Barker for the song “Forever.” In August, RTJ shared a Ninian Doff–directed music video for “Out of Sight,” which features 2 Chainz.
