Smashing Pumpkins have shared two new songs. “Cyr” and “The Colour of Love” are out now via Sumerian. Listen to both tracks below, and scroll down for a performance video of “Cyr,” directed by Linda Strawberry.

In addition to the new singles, the Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed that a new album is on the way, featuring founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

“Cyr” and “The Colour of Love” were recorded in Chicago and produced by Corgan. “‘Cyr’ is dystopic folly,” Corgan said in a press release. “One soul against the world sort of stuff, set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn’t possible with faith.”

Of the “Cyr” visual, Linda Strawberry said in a press release:

This is a goth fever dream of pent up emotion—an artistic visual release attempting to create a momentary escape from the emotional black cloud hanging over all of us this year. A dark seduction filmed in quarantine at a social distance.”

In 2018, Smashing Pumpkins released Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1—a new album featuring founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin alongside longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder. As the band went on tour, Corgan publicly feuded with founding bassist D’Arcy Wretzky. Last year, Corgan reunited with the long-lost guitar he played in the Gish era.

The band was set to tour this year, including dates with Guns N’ Roses, but shows were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Corgan’s last solo album was 2019’s Cotillions. In the meantime, he’s been running a wrestling company.
