It’s hard to believe that next year will be the 40th anniversary of Raiders of The Lost Ark. Raiders is undoubtedly one of the greatest action-adventure films of all time and introduced the world to one of cinema’s greatest heroes Indiana Jones!

I absolutely adore the films and I am very keen to see what James Mangold does with Indiana Jones 5 and if Harrison Ford will return to the role or they’ll recast him with a younger actor for a film set around WWII.

Indiana Jones is one property that has had various toy lines over the years from Kenner and Hasbro as well as Sideshow Toys, Figma, and Diamond Select Toys among others. The most recent long-running line was the Hasbro 3.75″ line which coincided with the release of Indiana Jones and The Temple of The Crystal Skull and they released a series figures, playsets and vehicles from all four films and even released a Raiders SDCC box set for the film’s 30th anniversary back in 2011.

Since then there hasn’t been a line of toys since. Aside from single figures from the likes of Sideshow and Figma. Now I think it’s time for Hasbro to acquire the license and release a line of 6″ Indiana Jones figures.

The time is just right as the film’s 40th Anniversary is next year, the face printing tech is really taking off on their Marvel Legends and Black Series lines and finally, Hasbro isn’t afraid to revisit old licenses such as The Ghostbusters and release 6″ collector friendly figures and do them very successfully as those Ghostbusters Plasma Collection figures are awesome!

I’m not too sure on how many waves Hasbro could do for the line, but with four films there would a lot of milage in the line. You could release multiple figures of Indiana Jones himself here’s a list of different Indiana Jones figures they could release:

  • Raiders Indiana Jones With Jacket (Peru & Nepal)
  • Raiders Indiana Jones (Cairo)
  • Raiders Indiana Jones (Map Room)
  • Raiders Indiana Jones (Ark Chase)
  • Temple of Doom Indiana Jones (Club Obi-Wan)
  • Temple of Doom Indiana Jones (Pankot Palace)
  • Temple of Doom Indiana Jones (Finale)
  • The Last Crusade Indiana Jones (Brunwald Castle)
  • The Last Crusade Indiana Jones (Tank Pursuit)
  • The Last Crusade Indiana Jones (Grail)
  • Crystal Skull Indiana Jones (Hangar 51 & Nuclear Test)
  • Crystal Skull Indiana Jones (Peru)
  • Professor Indiana Jones

Hasbro has nailed Harrison Ford’s likeness in the Black Series and I think they would do a teriffic job with his likeness in the Indiana Jones line. I’m not sure if they would do interchangeable heads or make his iconic fedora removeable, though I would be more than happy with either choice.

Of course, Indiana Jones would have to come with accessories including his whip (one relaxed for storage and one action whip or a bendy wire one), Webley revolver (with working holster), satchel, and depending on the figure artifact accessories such as the fertility idol or the Sankara Stones would be fantastic accessories as well as some scene-specific weapons. Also if some of the Indy figures had interchangeable fists to punch the bad guys would be fantastic! Also, some interchangeable heads would be great with some of the releases especially if they can capture Ford’s signature smirk!

Aside from Indy you could release figures of the villains I would snap them up for sure and I personally would love to see figures of Belloq, Toht, Mola Ram, Vogal, Walter Donovan, and Irina Spalko. In the last two cases, they have already done a fantastic job on Julian Glover and Cate Blanchett’s likenesses in the Marvel Legends and Black Series lines. Also, the love interests of Marion, Willie Scott, and Elsa would be marvelous additions to the line and again they could do multiple figures of them too.

Not forgetting Indiana Jones’s other allies Sallah, Short Round, Marcus Brody, Mutt Williams, and Henry Jones Snr would be amazing additions to the line if Hasbro would want to go that far. A young River Phoenix Indiana Jones would be a fun addition to the line.

Also, this line would need some goons for Indy to fight and they could do plenty of them, German Soldiers, Russian Soldiers, the Cairo Swordsman, Cairo goons, Thuggees, and who can forget Pat Roach’s German Mechanic from Raiders. There’s plenty of army building potential for this line that’s for sure. Not just for Indy to fight but to be displayed behind the villains too!

I don’t think Hasbro would want to go down the build-a-figure or build-a-accessory route for this line. I think this line would be similar to their Star Wars Black Series Line where you just get the figure and the accessories. An idea that I have for this line is rather than focus on film focused waves they could do a mixed wave of characters from the films so no collector suffers from Indiana Jones figure fatigue!

The packaging box could have a worn leather look to it with a wide display window showcasing the figure and all their accessories inside and beneath the display the name of the character and if the character is in a scene-specific costume they can always include the in brackets thing which they do for the Black Series line. Then on the back of the box, they would have a small bio of the character along with a large promo image of the figure and beneath advertise the other figures in the line.

I personally think this would be a fantastic line for Hasbro to do and a must-have for Indiana Jones fans as the IP is timeless and it’s about time Indiana Jones had a 6″ collectors line!
