Fatal Affair 2 Status
Netflix hasn’t yet green-lit Fatal Affair 2. Producers and executives from the streaming services will undoubtedly pay attention to critic reviews, but streaming numbers will most likely determine whether or not a sequel will be made. For TV series, Netflix generally takes three to six weeks before making a renewal or cancellation decision. In the case of Fatal Affair 2, Netflix may take several months before announcing a sequel. Given that Sullivan has now directed two films for the streaming service, it seems likely that he’ll direct at least one more, if only due to the popcorn thrills popularity of Secret Obsession and Fatal Affair among subscribers.
Fatal Affair 2 Release Date
Assuming that Netflix orders Fatal Affair 2, the sequel would presumably release by 2022 or before. But since Secret Obsession released in July 2019 and Fatal Affair debuted in July 2020, there may be a one-movie-per-year agreement in place. As of now, Sullivan doesn’t appear to have any new projects that are officially in the works, but don’t be surprised if he and Netflix unveil a new movie, potentially Fatal Affair 2, in July 2021. It’s possible that a brand new thriller will release next year, and will then be followed by a Fatal Affair sequel in July 2022.
Fatal Affair 2 Story Details
Fatal Affair ends with a literal cliffhanger, as David seemingly falls to his death. A basic reading of the ending suggests that the narrative reaches a tidy end, but that’s typically not how things work in erotic thrillers. David, who is diagnosed as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder, actually fakes his death earlier in the film so that he can continue to stalk the Warrens. In Fatal Affair’s ending, Sullivan shows David’s fall and also shows a lifeless body lying on a beach, which can at once be read as narrative clarity and narrative misdirection. The filmmaking choices have resulted in various online theories about David’s actual fate, which suggests that Fatal Affair 2 will be greenlit sooner than later.
For Netflix, the beauty of the Fatal Affair hype is that Sullivan and company can pick up the existing narrative or take an anthology approach. It won’t take much to justify David’s potential return in a sequel, as Sullivan stays true to the spirit of thrillers and leaves certain information cryptic and open for interpretation. If Fatal Affair 2 continues with the original storyline, expect David to track down the entire Warren family at different California locations.
