Here are the abilities of X-Men: Days Of Future Past’s Warpath explained – and how he meets his end. The success of the original X-Men paved the way for the modern-day comic book movie glut and brought the classic comic to life after years in development hell. It also kicked off a robust franchise, receiving numerous sequels, prequels and spinoffs, including the Deadpool franchise.

The quality of the X-Men movies could be a real mixed bag, however. Entries like X-Men: First Class or Logan are considered the best, but the likes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine are among the worst the genre has to offer. Sadly, the characters ended their big screen run with 2019’s Dark Phoenix, a decidedly lukewarm effort. The long, long-delayed spinoff The New Mutants is finally set to arrive in 2020.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past adapted the famous comic arc and introduced mutants like Omar Sy’s Bishop or Fan Bingbing’s Blink. Another mutant it introduced was Warpath, played by Booboo Stewart, who fights alongside the X-Men in the bleak, Sentinel controlled future of 2023. The movie version of Warpath – whose real name is James Proudstar – is somewhat underpowered compared to the comics, and is mostly a supporting player in the narrative.

That’s not to say Warpath’s many powers don’t come in useful during X-Men: Days Of Future Past. His heightened senses act as an early warning detector for the arrival of Sentinels, which gives the X-Men enough time to escape using Shadowcat’s powers. He’s also super strong and agile, being able to take down Sentinels with his bare hards and endure a lot of punishment. His main weapons are two Bowie knives, which he uses to mixed results in combat against the unkillable machines. In the comics, these knives are made from vibranium, though this isn’t mentioned in the film.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past’s Warpath dies a couple of times in the movie. The first is during a Sentinel assault that kills nearly the entire team, and finds Warpath being fried by an energy blast; due to Shadowcat sending Bishop’s consciousness back in time, this timeline is erased. His second death is even nastier, with the final Sentinel assault on the monastery in China quickly resulting in the deaths of mutants like Storm and Colossus, with the latter being torn in half. Warpath is grabbed by a Sentinel and slowly lowered into the path of its energy ray, which burns off his face. While he’s presumably saved when the past is altered, the character didn’t reappear in later movies.
