Kanye West is back with new music. He’s just shared a song called “Wash Us in the Blood,” which comes with a visual from the video artist (and prior West collaborator) Arthur Jafa. The song is mixed by Dr. Dre and features Travis Scott. The “Wash Us in the Blood” video opens with protest footage. The clip also has footage from West’s Saint Pablo Tour and Sunday Service rehearsals. Watch the visual below.
“Wash Us in the Blood” marks Kanye West’s return after last year’s gospel album Jesus Is King and, soon after, the Sunday Service Choir’s companion LP Jesus Is Born. The new track, set to feature on an album presently titled God’s Country, was mentioned in Kanye’s April 2020 interview with GQ’s Will Welch. The writer described all of the music he heard from the record as “worship songs.”
Asked about the record’s content, West said, “I was thinking of not rapping again, because I rapped for the devil so long that I didn’t even know how to rap for God. Then one of my pastors told me, ‘My son just said that he would want a rap album about Jesus from Kanye West.’ He didn’t say, ‘Kanye West, you should do this,’ or ‘you need to do this.’ He just told me something that a child said. And that one thing made the difference.”
Last week, West announced a collaboration with Gap called Yeezy Gap. Under the terms of the 10-year deal, West will fulfill his long-held ambition to create an affordable clothing line, designing “modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points.” He also recently teased a CGI animated series based on his 2018 collaboration with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts, set to be directed by Takashi Murakami.
