In what must be one of history’s highest ranking SEO titles, Nintendo revealed New Pokémon Snap, a new game headed for the Switch … sometime. The short trailer rolled Wednesday morning during the publisher’s Pokémon Direct, containing other industry innovations like the toothbrushing app Pokémon Smile.

Originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1999 from HAL Laboratory, Pokémon Snap is one of the outliers of the franchise, in that its gameplay does not hinge on the capture and combat of creatures – rather, players observe Pokémon in their natural habitat, take a few pictures, and soak in the vibes. Given that, fans have been begging for a sequel for nearly two decades, to the point that some (myself included) had totally given up hope for a New Pokémon Snap. It’s also interesting to note that HAL will not be developing the sequel to its original game. Nintendo has tapped Bandai Namco Studios for the job instead.

No, there’s not a release date yet unfortunately. All we have is the announcement trailer, and the following official description from Nintendo. In the meantime, be on the lookout for Sword and Shield expansions to tide you over.

The New Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo Switch system is based on its namesake, which was first released for the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. This game will take Trainers on an adventure to unknown islands overflowing with natural sights such as jungles and beaches, where they can research various Pokémon in their natural habitats. They will take photos to make their very own in-game Pokémon Photodex, all while discovering new, never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.
