Space thriller Moonfall has cast Josh Gad in a leading role. Gad’s unwavering career totes a list of high-profile projects including Frozen 2, Murder on the Orient Express, and Beauty and the Beast. Recently, amid coronavirus lockdowns, Gad has become an internet sensation with the creation of his web series Reunited Apart and utilizing social media to read popular children’s stories aloud. Now, Gad has been slated to transport to outer space in the latest disaster thriller from filmmaker Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Godzilla).
Per THR, Gad has been cast in Moonfall as KC Houseman, an odd and unkempt genius. The inaugural cast member of the ensemble, Gad will tackle eccentric KC Houseman, who accurately predicts that the moon has fallen out of its orbit, “…thus making the space-obsessed, profoundly unfiltered and eccentric man one of the most important people on Earth.”
Penned by Emmerich, Harald Kloser (Emmerich’s co-writer on 2012 and 10,000 BC), and Spenser Cohen (Extinction), Moonfall will follow the chaotic course of events after the moon is blundered from its orbit by a mysterious force and set on a collision course towards Earth. Mere weeks before its devastating impact, a misfit team is sent on a mission to land on the lunar surface in an attempt to save the world.
Moonfall is in the creative hands of Emmerich, who has set the goal for production to begin this fall. As production gets closer, more details will unravel, including the pivotal casting choices of those who will join Gad in space. Gad’s career shows no signs of slowing down, as the actor will next be seen in Disney’s Artemis Fowl and is slated to star in Shrunk, Disney’s reboot of Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Moonfall has been in development since 2016. However, Emmercich’s commitment to Midway put Moonfall on the back burner. Given Emmerich’s seasoned talent to depict mass destruction and Gad’s attachment, no doubt the timing will be just right for Moonfall to be a massive success.
