Marvel Comics’ Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1, the launch of the character’s new ongoing series, will debut digitally on Monday, May 4, otherwise known as “May the 4th” or “Star Wars Day” to fans.

As just-announced by the publisher Friday, that means the issue will debut digitally 23 days before it’s due to arrive in comic shops (via Diamond Comic Distributors’ re-established distribution) on Wednesday, May 27.

Written by Alyssa Wong with art by Marika Cresta, “the series equips Doctor Aphra with both a new crew and a new mission set in the aftermath of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” reads Marvel’s official description. “With the Rebel Alliance back on the run after their defeat at the Battle of Hoth, it’s never been a more dangerous time for outlaws, scoundrels and the errant rogue archaeologist to make their way in the galaxy. But after a string of bad luck and near escapes, Doctor Aphra has been keeping a low profile—jobs are scarce and credits scarcer. But the promise of the score of a lifetime is just too good for her to pass up.”

When the issue arrives in comic book shops later in May, Marvel encourages readers to “contact your local comic shop for information about their current business policies to observe social distancing or other services they may offer, including holding or creating pull lists, curbside pick-ups, special deliveries, and other options to accommodate.”

Coincidently (or perhaps not), this is the second time Doctor Aphra #1 has been announced to debut digitally before print.

In late March StarWars.com announced the series would debut April 1 as a digital exclusive, the same day Diamond suspended their operations, which Marvel Comics later told Newsarama was inaccurate.

The series of course did not launch digitally April 1, but the digital-first part has now seems to be coming true.
