Press Release

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 13, 2020) – Hero Initiative, the charity dedicated to helping comic book creators in medical or financial need, has rolled out brand-new experiences featuring top comic book creators providing question-and-answer sessions, tutorials, and even original art…all from at least six feet away.

New “Hero Initiative Live” events are currently available at Hero Initiative’s website. The limited experiences serve the dual purpose of generating much-needed revenue for Hero, while providing fans with face-to-face meetings with their favorite creators at a time when the usual convention circuit is on lockdown due to global pandemic. Hero Initiative Live experiences will take place via the popular webconference platform, Zoom.

“I’ve heard it time and time again from the mouths of the greatest creators in comics, the Hero Initiative helps people who need the help, people whose work has helped me get thought the hardest moments of my life,” said Batman and Strange Adventures writer Tom King. “I’m happy to do what I can to support that mission.”

Creators and other experts participating in Hero Initiative Live events include Charlie Adlard, Brian Azzarello, Brian Michael Bendis, Steve Borock, Donny Cates, Howard Chaykin, Katie Cook, Dan DiDio, Colleen Doran, Scott Dunbier, Dave Gibbons, Megan Hutchison, Joelle Jones, Tom King, Jeff Lemire, Ron Marz, John McCrea, Mike McKone, Fabian Nicieza, Todd Nauck, Greg Rucka, Chris Ryall, Tim Seeley, Mark Waid, and Chip Zdarsky. The first round of events are available for purchase now, with a second week scheduled to go on sale April 20.

“More than ever, it’s important for creators to stay connected to their audience,” said Hero board member Mark Waid. “Though we’re all still working away furiously in our quarantine hovels, making connections like these will be time well-spent.”

It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $1 million to the comic book veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today.
