The Half of It trailer teases an unconventional love story coming to Netflix. The streaming service has seen an abundance of success in the romantic comedy genre. A variety of films ranging from teen rom-coms such as To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, to more adult-centric features, such as Always Be My Maybe and Someone Great, have all found a dedicated and loving audience on the platform. Now, it looks like the company is ready to bring in even more lovey-dovey content for viewers.
Per Netflix, The Half of It is written and directed by Alice Wu. Its story is centered on an introverted young girl named Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis) who helps ghostwrite papers for her classmates. One day, her writing skills are needed for something far more personal when a jock by the name of Paul Munsky (Daniel Diemer) asks her to write love notes to a classmate of theirs named Aster Flores (Alexxis Lemire). Ellie, coincidently, is also crushing on Aster, which proves to be a major complication as her and Paul’s friendship begins to flourish. Wu explains that, after finishing the film, she used to “think there was only one way to love,” but now, she sees there are “so many more ways to love than [she] had ever imagined.” The upcoming film is just one of many new rom-coms releasing this year on the streaming platform, hot on the heels of the much-beloved release of To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and the soon-to-be-released Love Wedding Repeat.
The Half of It also stars Enrique Murciano, Wolfgang Novogratz, Catherine Curtin with Becky Ann Baker and Collin Chou. It’s set to release on May 1 on Netflix.
