Gathering resources is an essential process in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Whether it be to upgrade your tools, build large projects, or complete tasks, the player will need to gather a bunch of resources. One of these resources is Iron Nuggets. These can be pretty scarce on ones own and island, and it can be a pain to find them.
In order to upgrade tools, players will need to harvest a single iron nugget per tool, and a task given to the player by Timmy Nook pretty early on requires the player to donate 30 iron nuggets. This task can be quite daunting as players will need to build multiple tools during the process of collecting iron, but as the old saying goes, “you gotta spend some to make some.” Here is where players can find iron nuggets and how to farm them efficiently.
Where to find Iron Nuggets in Animal Crossing New Horizons
Iron Nuggets can be found inside of rocks which players should have plenty of on their island. Players will need to use either a shovel or an axe to hit a rock which will make rocks, clay, iron, or gold nuggets pop out of the rock. It is recommended to use your shovel because its reach is longer than the axe.
Rocks are randomly placed around the island and can only be used once per day to harvest materials. This can make gathering 30 iron a bit difficult, but luckily players can buy Nook Miles Tickets from the Nook Stop to travel to other deserted islands for resources. Every deserted island has at least a few rocks on them, and usually, these rocks are more likely to give a player better items.
Nook Miles Tickets cost 2,000 Nook Miles each and can only be used once so make sure when you go to collect as many resources as possible. These islands are randomly generated and players can stay here as long as they like, but once they leave they will never return to that island.
How to farm Iron Nuggets Efficiently in Animal Crossing New Horizons
A player can hit a rock up to 8 times if they set up their position properly. When hitting a rock, players only have a certain amount of time after the first hit to get more hits, which is unlike a tree that will allow players to collect three wood no matter how much time has passed in between hits. Use the image above as a reference for how to set up the perfect position to hit rocks with your shovel.
Players will need to position themselves in one of the corners of the rock, and then need to dig holes on either side of them that are not adjacent to the rock. This will keep the player in place while hitting the rock as every time the player hits a rock with a shovel they will be pushed back. Taking time to run back up to the rock after a couple of swings will take up some of the time they could be using to harvest items.
Once the holes are dug, players need to face the rock in the corner and press the hit button until the rock has been hit 8 times. Repeat this cycle for every rock and players will get 30 iron nuggets in no time.
