Joseph P. Illidge has joined Heavy Metal as Co-Managing Editor alongside former Senior Editor Ricardo Llarena. Announced via The Hollywood Reporter, Illidge’s hiring comes just after the hiring of fellow DC alum David Erwin as Publisher and Matthew Medney as CEO.

“Working with the great team at Heavy Metal has been a bucket list experience!,” Illidge said in a statement. “The company’s name and brand symbolizes the innovation of genre storytelling and the collection of distinctive veteran and new talents. It’s an honor to be part of a team dedicated to igniting the company, bringing top-notch creators from around the globe to the Heavy Metal landscape, and paving the way for a new era as the true leader in sequential storytelling for science fiction, fantasy, and horror.”

In a unique situation, Illidge will continue his current role as A Wave Blue World’s Editorial Director while taking on this position at Heavy Metal. Illidge previously worked as a top editor for Valiant Entertainment, Lion Forge, Archaia Press, DC, and Milestone Media.

Tim Seeley, who was hired as Heavy Metal’s Managing Editor in March 2019, has been promoted to Editor-in-Chief.
