Star Wars will release official details about the mysterious Project Luminous in February. While Lucasfilm closed the book on the Skywalker saga this past December with The Rise of Skywalker, the galaxy far, far away still has plenty of stories left to tell. Disney is putting the movies on hiatus until 2020, but Star Wars will have a presence in other mediums. Looking beyond the various Disney+ TV shows that are in various stages of development, there will continue to be Star Wars books and comics that further flesh out the universe and expand the lore.
On the publishing front, there’s a major upcoming event intriguing fans called Project Luminous. In typical Lucasfilm fashion, most of it is being kept under wraps at this point in time, but it’s a multimedia initiative (featuring novels and comic books) that will work together to tell a cohesive story. As Star Wars enters a new era and embarks on its own “Phase 2” post-Skywalker saga, people are interested in learning more about Project Luminous and what they can expect. Fortunately, there isn’t much longer to wait.

ABC’s Clayton Sandell took to Twitter to share information regarding Project Luminous will be revealed on February 24, 2020. You can see his post in the space below:
Sandell tagged the various publishing companies and authors associated with Project Luminous (including Claudia Gray, Cavan Scott, and Daniel José Older), so it would be reasonable to assume details coming out in February will primarily be about the books and comics that are a part of Project Luminous. Some fans might be hoping for updates about the next slate of Star Wars films (especially since at one point it was reported a new movie could be announced this month). That conceivably could happen, but there’s a good chance Lucasfilm wants to keep the focus on the books and not run the risk of overshadowing those reveals with confirmations about upcoming films. The studio will have plenty of opportunities in 2020 (including Celebration Anaheim this August) to tease what’s next on the big screen.
At the same time, Project Luminous may provide some clues regarding what Lucasfilm has in mind for the next wave of Star Wars films. The books could be seen as primers for a new galactic era (either High Republic or Old Republic, based on the rumors) that help fans become familiar with another section of the Star Wars timeline. Non-movie canon materials have never been required homework to understand the films or TV shows, but everything still works together to complement each other. If the books are set in the High Republic, Old Republic, or somewhere else, it would make sense for the new movies to take place in the same era, so all mediums of Star Wars can continue that dynamic.
