Last week I noted my surprise that the movie Black Widow Legends figure in white costume was going to be available via many retailers and not just as a Target or Walmart exclusive like last year’s pair of Captain Marvels. Well, looks like Hasbro was way ahead of me and had that box checked already with comic variants–a Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Grey Costume Black Widow is now up for order, and Target has their own comic-based white costume Black Widow as well!
For whatever reason, I forgot last week that with decades of history and recognizable costumes for Natasha, Hasbro could have their cake (and release the white movie costume at mass retail) and eat it too by still releasing limited exclusive comic book variants as store exclusives to Walmart and Target!
I thought I was pretty well satisfied with the Retro Black Widow Vintage-style figure and the Riders versions with motorcycle, but it turns out that Hasbro had two more iterations up their sleeve that they knew I wouldn’t resist!
First up, we’ve got the Walmart Exclusive: Grey Costume Black Widow! This was popular in the comic books in the 90s, but much more importantly, it’s the gray suit Black Widow that’s been a four-star mainstay of Marvel Puzzle Quest for over half a decade! I probably could have passed on this figure if not for my MPQ fandom, but alas!
The Marvel Legends Grey Black Widow exclusive gives us a 6″ Natasha like we’ve never seen before, complete with jacket, short hair, and interchangeable hands and Widow’s Sting blasters and effects! This figure is straight-up fire, and it feels like a shame it’s getting a limited release instead of a mass one.
Meanwhile, Target has their own EX: a comic book version White Costume Black Widow Marvel Legends 6″ figure. This is a costume that only has limited exposure in the comic books (including appearing in Deadly Origin), making only sporadic appearances. I actually had the Sideshow Premium Format Figure statue of this costume back in the day, but realized I didn’t have any connection to the costume and ended up selling it.
I think we may see this white uniform appear more frequently in the comic books after being seen in the movie, and I’m on-board for a $20 figure even if I didn’t need a $400 statue of this version. The Target figure has 3 guns and 4 effects pieces, so I want it even if just for the accessories anyway.
The Marvel Legends Walmart Exclusive Black Widow is up for order now online, and the Target exclusive is expected to go up for PO as well later today. These particular retailer exclusives can either end up being plentiful or a PITA to find at retail, so I just went ahead and reserved my GSBW from Walmart (and will hopefully do the same for Target’s as well shortly).
Any takers (besides me!) on these new comic book variant Black Widow Legends figures? Has Hasbro covered all the bases now for Natasha, or are there still costumes you’d like to see in 6″ form (Original costume, anyone)?
