Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a direct sequel to Ghostbusters 2, following up on the events of what is now called the “Manhattan Crossrip,” in which ghosts and other apparitions (including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man) materialized in New York City.
The film’s first trailer will debut Monday, December 6, and may shed some more light on the plot. The film’s cast also includes Paul Rudd, Bokeem Woodbine, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts. It’s directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is due out in theaters July 10.
