Yet another new image from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been released, this time offering us a look at the sequel trilogy heroes reunited and ready for battle. The final film in the Skywalker Saga releases in less than a month’s time, and each day seems to bring with it some new piece of Star Wars marketing.

In just the past week, there have been new posters, TV spots, and magazine spreads – all hyping the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker without giving away a single detail about the plot. The little we do know about what happens in Rise of Skywalker has come from the film’s trailers. Most notably, it was thanks to the debut of a new trailer at Star Wars Celebration that revealed the return of Emperor Palpatine – possibly the most exciting detail we actually do know about the upcoming film. Otherwise, most of the new images and promotional material has been pretty generic, like this latest shot of the sequel trilogy’s trio.

Released as part of the lead up to Empire‘s issue devoted to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, this new image features the film’s young heroes – Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Issac) along with C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) – gathered together as they lay eyes on something. Again, it’s an image that while it offers up a great look at the film’s leads, doesn’t give a whole lot away in respect to the story. From their expressions, we can speculate that whatever they’re seeing is shocking and possibly threatening. It also appears to be very large or high above them (or both!) given the direction they’re looking. Perhaps, though, the image is just meant to remind us that The Rise of Skywalker will be the first film in the sequel trilogy where the trio are on an adventure together. Check out the new image of Finn, Rey, Poe, and Threepio, below.

Finn Rey Poe C3PO Star Wars 9 New Image from Empire

Star Wars has a thing for the number three. The film series typically releases in trilogies, and with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the Skywalker Saga will, in fact, be a trilogy of trilogies. The Star Wars films will also generally center on a trio of heroes. In the original trilogy, it was Luke, Leia, and Han; in the prequel trilogy, Anakin, Padme, and Obi-Wan; and in the sequel trilogy beginning with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s Rey, Finn, and Poe. Except, the three didn’t actually share any screen time in that film, and instead, it’s Finn who spends stretches of the film with either Rey or Poe but never both. Star Wars: The Last Jedi didn’t do much better in this regard, but at least it featured a scene of Rey and Poe finally meeting.

In The Rise of Skywalker, the sequel’s trilogy will finally be united on screen for the big space opera finale. Much of the marketing has included shots of Rey, Finn, and Poe adventuring across desert, grassland, and sea in search of, again, something. Again, just what their adventure entails remains unknown, but at least in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, they’ll spend some of that adventure together.
