I’ve been collecting toys for a long time. A really long time. As such, it takes something special for me to stop in a store – look at something new on the shelf, go ‘Wow’ and then carry it to the checkout. That happened last week at Walmart with the new Transformers endcap which features cel-shaded animation style repaints of the Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege Optimus Prime and Megatron.
I’m not going to go into details about the sculpt and the transformation and the articulation as these are straight up repaints and I’m sure there are hours and hours of reviews you can watch on youtube. But what I am going to into is how gorgeous these toys are. The deco on these is just perfection…Optimus in particular looks like he’s stepped right out of the G1 cartoon. These decos are so good, it’s almost hard to believe these are mass market toys and not botique custom items. I could go on and on about these, but instead, look at the pictures below. These toys are superb. If you’re a fan of Transformers animation – you need to have these.
Props to the Hasbro design team for doing something so ‘fresh’ and executing it so well.
