Halloween may be just around the corner, but the minds behind Legacies are already hard at work creating the upcoming Season 2 Christmas episode. ‘Tis the season to potentially fight off an evil Santa Claus, right?

Showrunner Julie Plec told TV Guide that production just started on Legacies Christmas episode, and you can expect a few surprises out of the Salvatore students’ Yuletide shenanigans. “We’re very excited about it. It’s hilarious. It’s super Christmas-y,” Plec said. “All I can say about it is it’s not actually set on Christmas. So you have to say, ‘What is making the Christmas spirit supernaturally infect Mystic Falls?'”

Obviously, seeing as the monster-of-the-week format is still in effect in Season 2, you can bet that someone — or something — has arrived to terrorize the Salvatore School with reindeer and mistletoe. It’s a little hard to imagine how bringing Christmas cheer could ever be considered bad, but we might have a clue about who exactly is coming to town, and you better watch out.

Plec and executive producer Brett Matthews previously revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Season 2 would be celebrating the holidays in style. Though they didn’t say much about the Christmas episode, they did reveal that they’d been wanting to do an “evil Santa Claus” and tease that M.G. (Quincy Fouse), in particular, would be extremely troubled if “all of his friends are plotting to kill Santa.”

Could an evil, monstrous Santa Claus be the reason the town is infected with Christmas spirit? We’re not ashamed to say… dear God, we hope so!

Legacies airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
