Composer Max Richter has announced a show at the Great Wall of China. He’ll perform his eight-hour composition SLEEP as part of the Beijing Music Festival (BMF). The performance begins on Friday, October 4 at 10 p.m. China Standard Time and wraps up at 6 a.m. the next morning. According to a press release, the concert will take place at a portion of the Great Wall near Beijing called the “Water Pass.” And, as with past performances of SLEEP, there will be beds and audience members are encouraged to sleep.

Performing SLEEP at the Great Wall with Richter will be a string quintet from the American Contemporary Music Ensemble and soprano Grace Davidson. Richter will join them on the piano. “Performing SLEEP at such an iconic location is a very special opportunity at BMF,” Richter said in a statement. “This concert is a huge undertaking—physically, mentally and logistically—but we can’t wait to do it. It is sure to be a night to remember.

Following his show at the Great Wall, Max Richter will play U.S. concerts this October. Check out his schedule below. Get tickets here. (Pitchfork may earn a commission from purchases made through affiliate links on our site.)
